Anxiety Therapy

Anxiety Psychologist for Brisbane North

Get the anxiety therapy and support you need from our caring and highly professional psychologists.

Anxiety is a natural function that alerts us to danger and enables a response to potential threats. It can affect people negatively and prevent us from enjoying life, work and relationships. When that happens, seeking anxiety help in Brisbane from a psychologist who specialises in anxiety therapy is the right move.

Every day we bring our very best as anxiety psychologists at Brisbane Centre for Psychology. Our goal is to help as many patients as possible. We do this by providing a range of anxiety therapies at our Brisbane North clinic

These include CBT, EMDR, Schema Therapy and more to help you identify the root cause of the anxiety. Anxiety therapy can help you work through it and better cope with daily life and the difficult times we all face.

What are the symptoms of anxiety?

Anxiety can affect people psychologically, physiologically and behaviourally, and often in different ways.

Some people think unhelpful thoughts that prevent them from coping with situations at home or work. Whereas others may find it hard to express themselves or manage everyday situations or even experience sweating and muscle tension.

Just as anxiety affects people in different ways, so too do the symptoms of anxiety differ from person to person.

Panic attacks can be intense. They may be accompanied by hot and cold flashes, elevated heart rate and shortness of breath.

Most people suffering from a panic disorder or a heightened general anxiety may experience numbness or tingling, trembling or even shaking. Some people report chest pain, a choking feeling or an upset stomach.
Others may experience a feeling of being detached from what is happening around them. Some people experience a fear of losing control or dying.

Symptoms prompted by your level of anxiety aren’t always obvious. Some of the common types of anxiety symptoms that we treat with anxiety counselling in Brisbane include:

  • Irritability
  • Muscle tension
  • Elevated heart rate
  • Feeling faint of dizzy
  • Sweating or hot and cold flashes
  • Obsessive thinking that snowballs
  • Upset stomach or feeling nauseous
  • Restlessness and compulsive behaviour
  • Social isolation due to avoiding social situations
  • Difficulty breathing and feeling tight across the chest
  • Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

Who can experience anxiety disorders?

Everyone can experience anxiety, not only adults.

Children can display anxious or fearful behaviour especially when faced with new or difficult situations. This may be a breakdown of their parents’ marriage or relationship, starting a new school or bullying.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a common and major challenge for people across Australia these days

You will not be alone in finding an anxiety treatment that suits your needs. OCD is a disorder that can be managed with the help of a qualified OCD psychologist in our Brisbane office.

Do you or a loved one experience any of the above symptoms? This may be daily, occasionally or during times of difficulty or stress. Regardless of the duration, contact Brisbane Centre for Psychology to make an appointment for anxiety treatment at our Brisbane North clinic.
