Child Safety Statement
Our Commitment to Children and Young People
At Brisbane Centre for Psychology, we believe every child and young person has the right to feel safe, respected, heard and supported.
We are committed to protecting children from harm while promoting their wellbeing and dignity.
What Children Can Expect From Us
When you visit us, you can expect that we will:
- listen to you
- treat you with kindness and respect
- explain things in ways you can understand
- respect your privacy
- help you feel safe
- take your worries seriously
- support you to have a say in decisions about your care whenever appropriate
If something makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, we want you to tell us. We will listen and take your concerns seriously.
Our Commitment To Families And Carers
We recognise that families and carers play an essential role in supporting children’s wellbeing. We are committed to:
- communicating openly and respectfully
- involving families in decisions about care
- responding promptly to concerns or complaints
- continually improving our services through feedback
How We Keep Children Safe
We keep children safe by:
- employing appropriately qualified and screened psychologists and workers
- requiring Blue Card screening where applicable
- providing ongoing child safety training
- maintaining clear professional boundaries
- responding promptly to concerns and managing risks proactively
Speaking Up
You can talk to:
- your psychologist
- your parent or carer
- one of our clinic workers
You do not need to be certain that something is wrong before raising a concern — if something doesn’t feel right, please tell us. You can also ask a parent or carer to raise a concern for you at any time — this will never get you in trouble.
A Note for Parents and Carers
For your child’s safety, children and young people must not be left unattended in our reception or waiting areas. Please stay nearby or ensure you are contactable and collect your child promptly at the end of their appointment.
If you are delayed, your child’s treating psychologist will remain with them until you arrive — your child will never be left in our reception or waiting area alone.
Our Promise
At Brisbane Centre for Psychology, child safety is not simply a policy — it is part of our culture and everyday practice. Together, we create an environment where every child feels safe, respected, heard and supported.
